Shanghai Provides Mothers with 3400-plus Mommy Huts

TRAVEL 2020/12/16 11:15

Nursing mothers who need to breast feed their child are now able to do so in any of the mommy huts in public places in Shanghai. Now, there are more than 3,400 mommy huts in the city. Among them, 2,000-plus huts are star-level ones.

The lack of private places in public facilities or workplace for breastfeeding troubled many working mothers.

Since 2013, the Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions has run a public welfare project named Mommy Hut, aiming to provide a private, clean, comfortable and safe place for working women in pregnancy and the nursing period.

Many mommy huts are situated in local public facilities, including hospitals, shopping malls, traffic hubs, the Hongqiao railway station, the Jing'an Temple business circle and the Huaihai Road commercial area.

The establishment and management regulations of Mommy Huts released by the federation provided specific requirements for setting up Mommy Huts, including application procedures, management standards and incentive measures.

In the future, every five-star hut will cover 10 square meters and be equipped with a wash basin and even a baby diaper table with a safety buckle and a baby cot. The goal is to provide more humanized facilities for working women who have new babies.
